Umuntu 1: Umuryango wanyu ni munini. / Your family is big.
Umuntu 2: Ababyeyi bacu babyaye abana benshi / Our parents gave birth to many children.
Umuntu 1: Umuryango wacu urabakunda cyane. / Our family loves you so much.
Umuntu 2: Natwe turabakunda.
Some Vocabularies:
- Umuryango = Family
- Wanyu = yours; Wacu = ours; wabo = theirs; wanjye = mine; wawe = yours (Singular); (Family)
- Munini = big
- Ababyeyi = Parents; Umubyeyi = a parent;
- Bacu = Ours; Banyu = Yours; Babo = Theirs; Be = his/hers; (Parents)
- Abana = children; Umwana = a child;
- Benshi = many children (people)
- Babyaye = they gave birth to (comes from the verb “Kubyara” which means to give birth)
- cyane = very much
- Urabakunda = it loves you (family)
- Natwe = Us also
- Turabakunda = We love you.
Point to remember:
In Kinyarwanda, to love and to like are all “gukunda”
Different ways to use this verb:
- Ndagukunda = I love you.
- Ndabakunda = I love them/you(plural).
- Ndamukunda = I love him/her.
- Nda(gi/bi)kunda = I love it
- Urankunda = You love me.
- Uramukunda = You love him/her
- Urabakunda = You love them (people)
- Uradukunda = You love us
- Urikunda = You love yourself.
- Ura(gi/bi)kunda = You love it
On third person (he/she), this URA would be replaced with ARA:
Urugero: Arabakunda = He/she loves them.
On 1st person in plural (US), NDA is replaced with TURA:
Urugero: Ndagukunda = Turagukunda
