Our family loves you

Umuntu 1: Umuryango wanyu ni munini. / Your family is big.
Umuntu 2: Ababyeyi bacu babyaye abana benshi / Our parents gave birth to many children.

Umuntu 1: Umuryango wacu urabakunda cyane. / Our family loves you so much.
Umuntu 2: Natwe turabakunda.

Some Vocabularies:

  1. Umuryango = Family
  2. Wanyu = yours; Wacu = ours; wabo = theirs; wanjye = mine; wawe = yours (Singular); (Family)
  3. Munini = big
  4. Ababyeyi = Parents; Umubyeyi = a parent;
  5. Bacu = Ours; Banyu = Yours; Babo = Theirs; Be = his/hers; (Parents)
  6. Abana = children; Umwana = a child;
  7. Benshi = many children (people)
  8. Babyaye = they gave birth to (comes from the verb “Kubyara” which means to give birth)
  9. cyane = very much
  10. Urabakunda = it loves you (family)
  11. Natwe = Us also
  12. Turabakunda = We love you.

Point to remember:

In Kinyarwanda, to love and to like are all “gukunda”

    Different ways to use this verb:

    1. Ndagukunda = I love you.
    2. Ndabakunda = I love them/you(plural).
    3. Ndamukunda = I love him/her.
    4. Nda(gi/bi)kunda = I love it
    5. Urankunda = You love me.
    6. Uramukunda = You love him/her
    7. Urabakunda = You love them (people)
    8. Uradukunda = You love us
    9. Urikunda = You love yourself.
    10. Ura(gi/bi)kunda = You love it
    On third person (he/she), this URA would be replaced with ARA:

    Urugero: Arabakunda = He/she loves them.

    On 1st person in plural (US), NDA is replaced with TURA:

    Urugero: Ndagukunda = Turagukunda
