Proverb: Igiti kigororwa kikiri gito

Meaning

Igiti kigororwa kikiri gito = A tree is straightened/corrected while it is still young.

This proverb is used to mean that it is easy to educate the young ones to follow a certain path while they are still young, because when they become old, they will follow the path they learned while they are young. It stresses the role of educating your children and giving them time while they are young.

Vocabulary

Igiti = A tree
Kigororwa = Is corrected (comes from verbs “kugororwa” which means to be corrected, but it also comes from “kugorora” which means to correct.)
Kikiri = While it is still
Gito = young/small

Kugororwa (Can be used for correctional services in prison)

Kigororwa = It is corrected
Ari kugororwa = He/she is being corrected
Yaragorowe = He/she was corrected
Cyaragorowe = It was corrected.
